Position Overview
IR is a tight knit, passionate company with a long and influential history in the sport of whitewater kayaking. In many ways, we are the very definition of a core brand. As such, this will be a wonderful job for the right person with enormous opportunities to do creative work across our entire company, but it will also have all of the challenges of doing this in a small industry.
We have specific skills we’ll want you to bring to the table as well as some specific responsibilities that are integral to the job, which are listed below, but in the larger sense, the person we’re looking for someone who:
- Can contextualize IR against the backdrop of other youthful/technical brands like Burton, Patagonia, Volcom, etc in a way that helps us define what whitewater is, what it wants to be, and how we stand apart.
- Fully appreciates the power that IR has in directing this narrative for the entire sport, and is excited and energized about that potential.
- Can see the arc of IR’s brand and its unique role in the industry, and fully capitalize on IR’s quirky nature, and its deep, deep roots in the sport.
- Is able to use all of this as a launching pad into other industries without compromising our core values or deviating from our primary brand image
- Has skills and creativity to exploit the huge amount of branding material we have gathered over the past 30 years in business and present it to our customers in a fun and engaging way.
- Can work well in a small company in a way that can strike a balance between budget, working with a team, and being an independent leader who can take charge when needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead our marketing efforts across social media, email, and our website.
- Work with our team of athletes by managing relationships, coordinating gear, and get great content that showcases IR.
- Create and curate authentic content in-house to meet brand and marketing objectives.
- Strategize new approaches for all D2C funnels to improve customer experience and brand awareness online.
- Collaborate with teams in Product Development and Web to ensure strong product launches.
- Implement a strong media strategy for all social channels, ensuring content is relevant, authentic, and gets people engaged.
- Handle email marketing using Klaviyo, including setting up automated flows, segmenting lists, and analyzing performance.
- Manage donations and sponsorships for organizations, races, and community events.
- Organize and host in-person events at our Hood River location and in the Pacific Northwest region that align with brand initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience in developing, executing, and analyzing multi-channel marketing campaigns.
- Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro) or similar professional design and editing software.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing a brand's social media presence on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, with a strong understanding of their business tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite).
- Hands-on experience with email marketing automation platforms like Klaviyo, including building flows, segmenting lists, and analyzing campaign performance.
Preferred
- Hands-on graphic design experience, including creating assets for apparel, print media, and digital ads.
- Practical experience in brand videography and photography, with the ability to create and direct high-quality visual content.
- Passion for or experience in the whitewater or broader paddlesports industry.
